Sold for $409 brand new in 1966, the Yamaha YL-1 Twin Jet was the top selling 2-stroke in the United States at the time. It had double everything: two cylinders, two carburators, two exhaust pipes. Great handling excited motorcyclists and sports car enthusiasts alike. Although the Twin Jet is a 100cc bike, it was bred from the 250cc World Grand Prix Champion Yamahas. Yamaha was building bikes under the name Lilac until ’64, so this 1966 Twin Jet is an early part of Yamaha history.
